What is a Doula?
: a person trained to provide advice, information, emotional support, and physical comfort to a mother before, during, and just after childbirth- Susan Gilbert
"...also known as a birth companion, birth coach or post-birth supporter, is a non-medical person who stays with and assists a woman before, during, or after childbirth, to provide emotional support and physical help if needed. They also may provide support to the mother's partner and family." ~Wikipedia
Tri-Cities Christian Doulas recognizes the scope of doula practice to be based on four pillars including: Informational, Physical, Emotional, and Advocacy. We also acknowledge a fifth, Spiritual Pillar. As Christian Doulas, we realize that pregnancy, labor and birth are deeply spiritual times in a woman’s life. We know God designed the process to draw us closer to him. While some clients may not be believers, we are excited to serve these mothers and be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Greek root: a woman who serves.
